New York State CPAs are required to complete at least four contact hours in professional ethics during each triennial registration period. This course fulfills the State ethics requirements, as well as the ethics requirements for most certifications. 
 The course is divided into two, two-hour CPE ethics components. The first component covers the topics of a portion of the foundation course in professional ethics, including ethical foundations and ethical guidance for New York State CPAs. Ethical foundation topics to be covered include: an introduction to ethical concepts; the psychology of moral development, judgment and values; the sociology of professions, virtue and the role of rules of ethics; public expectations of CPA’s responsibilities; and ethical dilemmas.
 
 The second portion of the course includes updates on the latest New York State and AICPA rules on ethics and a section specifically on government ethics with examples, including the ethic requirements for State employees established in Section 74 of the Public Officers Law as well as GAGAS and IIA requirements.
