Giving Back to Our Community
The New York Capital Chapter has been active in community service for many years. In addition to individual members volunteering their services for a variety of activities, the chapter continues to be dedicated to give back to the community in which the members live.
During our 2022-2023 year, the Chapter participated in the following community service events:
- walking to raise money at the Walk to End Alzheimer's - Alzheimer's Association (Oct)
- helping to sort and pack food at the Regional Food Bank of Northeast NY (Oct)
- delivered meals to community residents for the Guilderland Food Pantry (Nov)
- delivered meals to community residents for the Guilderland Food Pantry (Dec)
- helping to package food and meals for students in Cohoes through the Cohoes Connect Center Backpack Program (Jan)
- helping to sort and pack food at the Regional Food Bank of Northeast NY (Apr)
- helping to straighten up, helping customers, sorting donations, and getting items to the sales floor for The Vandy Thrift Shoppe (May)
- bottle and can sorting for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (June)
The Community Service Committee is seeking volunteers to participate in events in the upcoming year. Feel free to contact Laura Brown at lbrown@osc.ny.gov or 518-573-2001 if you would like to join us in volunteering or if you have any questions.

| AGA - Albany Chapter Volunteer Opportunity - Sorting and Packing at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York | | 4/18/2026 - 4/18/2026 | The AGA Albany Chapter will assist the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in sorting and packing food and non-food donations. Donations come in all forms and often need to be sorted before they can be distributed. That’s where volunteers come in. The Regional Food Bank receives donations of dry, frozen, and refrigerated food; paper products; household items; personal hygiene products; school supplies; diapers; and more that need to be repacked into useable, family-sized packages. The Regional Food Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in northeastern New York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties. From Plattsburgh to Newburgh, in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provides over 55 million pounds of food a year to 1,000 agencies. The Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks.
All volunteers are required to wear closed toed shoes. Children age 12 and under, must be accompanied by an adult.
