Giving Back to Our Community
The New York Capital Chapter has been active in community service for many years. In addition to individual members volunteering their services for a variety of activities, the chapter continues to be dedicated to give back to the community in which the members live.
Last year, the Chapter participated in the various events to help raise funds for several organizations including the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Community Hospice, the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Albany Medical Center Children's hospital, and WMHT. In addition, we participated in the IRS's VITA Tax Preparers program and Habitat for Humanity.

 |
4/1/2010 - 12/31/2010 | Last year our Chapter started to reach out to its membership to ‘Pop-A-Top’ from their soda or beer cans for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Shriners provide care to children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. Those children eligible for care and receiving medical treatment at the Shriners Hospitals receive all services in a family-centered environment at no charge – regardless of financial need. In addition, if
transportation is needed, it is provided by the Hospital. Please stay tuned to our website and newsletters for how to donate your cans’ tabs to the Shriners. We will be setting up collections at our local training events this year. If you already have tabs collected and are waiting to donate them or if you have any questions or would like to help please contact Sigrid Coons at scoons@mail.nysed.gov.
** Pulling the tab off of the cans does not interfere with deposit refunds**

4/1/2010 - 4/15/2010 | VITA Support!!!
'Tis the season of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)!
For the past several years, the New York Capital Chapter of the AGA has proudly supported the Albany Public Library in helping those citizens who are unable to prepare or pay for their annual tax preparation. To be a volunteer, all you need to do is pass a tax preparation test (open book), and you can volunteer as much or as little time as you would like and whenever you would like, to prepare easy tax returns to those less fortunate from the end of January until mid April. Currently, tax preparation at the Albany Public Library is on Saturdays from 9am-3pm; However, there are multiple locations to volunteer from within the Capital District. All publications, user guides and software training are available and provided to volunteers. Prior tax preparation is not needed! To volunteer or to obtain more information, please call or email Linda Cioffi at moonlady14@hotmail.com or (518) 437-8444.
